Entourage Season Six: Where's the Drama?
The sixth season of Entourage starts Sunday, July 12, on HBO, and this newly minted trailer suggests that the ups and downs of movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) are definitely on the upswing. The trailer shows Vince, agent Ari (Jeremy Piven), manager Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly), pal Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) -- with girlfriend Jamie-Lynn Sigler -- all attending a joyous premiere at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood for Vince's new movie, Gatsby, directed by Martin Scorsese. But where's Johnny Drama (Kevin Dillon), Vince's big bro?
Entourage, which premiered in July 2004, is now the second-oldest scripted show still in production on HBO (Curb Your Enthusiasm is the oldest, having premiered as a series in October 2000). Entourage has been around so long that some have accused it of basically using the same storyline over and over again -- manic agent Ari makes deal for blockbuster movie, happy-go-lucky Vince and his pals celebrate by spending his money before he earns it, and then, through a variety of often hilarious circumstances, the rug, or Vince's his latest blockbuster, gets pulled out from under them.
At its core, Entourage is really a male buddy comedy, in which a group of young men, friends since childhood, get to have the kind of fantasy life -- sex, money, parties -- which many young men dream about. That's why, more than any other group, young men have embraced Entourage.
