Default 'Babylon 5' creator visting MIT on May 22

J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of the cult science fiction series "Babylon 5," will

deliver this year's Julius Schwartz Lecture, an annual event held to honor an individual

who has made significant contributions to the culture, creativity and community of comics

and popular entertainment.

The second-annual lecture, hosted by the Comparative Media Studies program, will take

place at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 22, in 10-250.

Straczynski was one of the first television producers to actively engage his fan community

online and has consistently explored the interface between digital media and other

storytelling platforms. He wrote most of the 110 "Babylon 5" episodes, including an

unbroken 59-episode run.

Tickets are required for the event, and can be purchased online at

The Julius Schwartz Lecture from Comparative Media Studies at MIT: Tickets or at Hub Comics in Somerville and

Comicopia in Boston's Kenmore Square. For more information, visit
