Why do people hate Danny Gokey so much?

There are a lot of people on the internet who say that people only think he's good because he has a sob story and his wife died. Honestly, I don't care that his wife died. I think he can sing. Though it is really mean for people to be criticizing him for sharing his emotions about his wife and his situation.
