And here are the rest:

8. Similarities have been drawn between "The Smoke Monster" and "Tulpa". According to Wikipedia, Tulpa is based on Tibetan mystic beliefs that objects and beings are materialized thought, created by willpower to take a physical form. Many TV shows have based their villains on this idea and is referenced in Stephen King's thriller 'It'.

7. Place your bets that Stephen King will direct an episode of 'Lost'. His influences are predominate throughout the series. His novel "Carrie," was introduced as a book club selection for the Others. He also often speaks of the show and has introduced the creators in his magazine column. It's also no secret that the creators of 'Lost' idolize Stephen King.

6. The number is referenced heavily throughout the show. Including the exact backbone in which Ben is suffering a tumor, a reference to The 23rd Psalm, the gate the survivors left from in Sydney and is even the expiration date on the Apollo Candy bar. Since 'Lost' is a heavy numbers game, 2 divided by 3 = .666, which is also the sign of the devil. Does this mean the island is Hell?

5. 'Lost' often references Greek mythology, particular for items that originated from the Hanso Foundation, such as: Apollo Candy, the Hydra station, Persephone in the 'Lost Experience' and the hatch as Pandora's Box.

4. The hieroglyphs within the countdown timer can be loosely translated as "to cause to die." However at a convention 'Lost' creators translated the hieroglyphs to mean "underworld." These glyphs are known as "folded cloth," "curl," "fire drill," "vulture," and "stick."

3. The plot of the show can be compared to the lyrics of the song 'Amazing Grace.' According to Jeff Jensen of Entertainment Weekly as '' the characters in 'Lost' are 'found,' the closer this serialized saga gets toward it's inevitable, natural, end." He even goes as far as to take each stanza and compare it to the separate seasons.

2. Many theories aim to decipher the meaning of the illuminated blast door map. According to lost4815162342.com, pieces of the map show terrain, Dharmatel relays or tunnels, specific Dharma facilities. It also bore Latin writing which includes the translations "He is made worse by his cure / medicine" and "It's a bad plan that can't be changed."

1. Insert your own Lost theory here.

ABC's "Lost" returned after a two-month hiatus to a new 10 p.m. berth Wednesday, drawing 14.7 million viewers -- down sharply from the 16.7 million it averaged during its first seven episodes this season.

This could be a very bad sign.

Default Weak show after looooong hiatus

I wasn't terribly impressed w/the latest episode. It introduced a variety of interesting things (Clockwork Orange scene, A Brief History of Time, Ben's daughter, the "recruitment" of Juliet), but it just wasn't particularly compelling as a story. Kate's recitation of Jack's first story to her was obviously "supposed" to be very dramatic (as well as a parallel to what he was doing at the time), but it really felt flat to me. Plus, the fact that she was supposed to be telling him that when she was safe was stupid cuz she was very clearly not safe at that time (not w/Juliet standing there w/a gun in her hand). Weak writing all around. They really need to get back in their groove soon or they're gonna start losing even more viewers very, very quickly.

This Desmond flashback episode was awesome. Definately the best one of the season.

It's no coincidence that the best episode came when they got away from the Others and their crappy other island. That Jack-Kate-Sawyer-Others storyline has to end.

This episode was like the first two seasons, where they actually spotlighted a protagonist you cared about and had a creative twist or two along the way. The scene where Desmond was buying the wedding ring was super cool.

Even better, it looks like the countdown to Charlie's death has begun. And who around here doesn't want to see that?

I think people are just slowly tiring of the mystery. America is a culture of instant gratification, and I believe that spills over to areas like this, as well. Maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe it's just a by-product of poor writing. It might help if they would take the focus off of the Others and put it back on the characters who everyone fell in love with.

ABC's drama about plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious island drew an estimated 12.8 million viewers Wednesday, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research. That's well off the peak of more than 20 million for the drama that became an instant sensation when it debuted in September 2004.

ABC has worked hard to try to protect a show that helped turn the network's fortunes around, moving it to 10 p.m. EST Wednesday this year to steer clear of Fox's blockbuster "American Idol" and CBS's increasingly strong "Criminal Minds."

After "Lost" fans complained about reruns interrupting the show's serial flow last season, the network tried an experiment: It split the current season in two, airing six episodes before an extended break and then resuming with 16 additional episodes.

The show's Feb. 7 return was heavily promoted and drew nearly 14.5 million viewers. But the bounce didn't last, with the show slumping this week to an all-time low.

Although protected from top-rated "American Idol" in its new time 10 p.m. time slot, "Lost" now has the disadvantage of trying to draw viewers at an hour when fewer people are watching television. This Wednesday, Valentine's Day put a 7 percent dent in overall TV viewership.

Default Latest Lost Episode Journal

Here's this week's episode. I kept a journal as I watched.

FLASHBACK: Hurley as a child. His father gets on his motorcycle and leaves the family. He leaves a half-finished sports car behind.

PRESENT: Charlie tells Hurley that Desmond said he was going to die. He explains the vision things. Hurley says Desmond might be right. Hurley mentions he's cursed and people die around him.

Vincent (the dog) shows up, carrying a skeletal arm with car keys clutched in the hand. Hurley follows the dog into the jungle. He finds an old car out in the jungle and whispers, "Awesome".

FLASHBACK: Cut to a puff piece on Chicken Shack. Hurley has just bought his old workplace and is the feature of a puff piece by Trisha Tanaka. He starts to recount all the bad things that have happened since he won the lottery, and she yells "Cut". She tells him it's a puff piece. He talks to his new employee about the chicken, which is frozen. Then there's an explosion outside, wreaking havoc on the whole neighborhood.

PRESENT: Hurley wants everyone to come look at the car. He wants to drive it. Jin inadvertently volunteers to help Hurley. Everyone else thinks it's a stupid idea.

Kate and Sawyer in the jungle. Sawyer's latest painful episode steps on a dart. They talk about apologizing and Little House on the Prairie, and Sawyer says he has nothing to be sorry for. They return to a warm reception at the beach, but are on the outs themselves.

FLASHBACK: Hurley walks into his mansion. He mentions Trisha Tanaka is dead by meteor (or comet). Hurley decides to go to Australia "...where the numbers came from". His mother tells him he's wrong and mentions that Hurley's father has shown up after 17 years.

PRESENT: Jin and Hurley make it to the car. They find unopened beer cans in the car.

Charlie confronts Desmond about his coming death. Desmond says he was drunk and he doesn't know when. Sawyer shows up mad about Charlie stealing all his stuff.

Sawyer looks up Hurley to confront him about his stuff and there is a warm welcome. Hurley buys Sawyer's help with the beer.

Kate and Sayeed talk about Jack, the Others and their isle. Kate gets packed up to go "get help". (I'm saying she looks up the French chick whose daughter was once kidnapped by the Others.)

FLASHBACK: Lunch with Hurley + his mother + his father. Hurley is suspicious and decides he's going to get rid of his money. He throws a wad of cash at the servants and tells him he's doing them a favor before they die. When his mother implies she has her sexual needs met by his father, Hurley really flips out. He calms down later to show the father the car he left Hurley years ago. (The opener of the episode showed the father leaving home.)

PRESENT: Back to the car. The three talk and nothing much happens. Commercial.

FLASHBACK: Hurley's father takes him to a tarot card reader. The reader reads out Hurley's lottery numbers. She sees death and a curse and says she sees more on the way. She tells him she can remove the curse, but he will have to remove the curse. Hurley gets suspicious and offers the card reader to admit his father put her up to this. She is outraged, but admits the ruse when Hurley raises his offer to $10,000. The father says he was only trying to help and Hurley ask's "Help who?"

PRESENT: Hurley recruits Charlie to help him. Charlie is sulking on the beach. Hurley is whacks him on the head and tells him to stop feeling for himself. He gives a speech about starting the car and taking matters into their own hand.

Meanwhile, Sawyer is teaching Jin to speak English. Hurley shows up and gets called Jumbotron by Sawyer.

Cut to the bunch of them pushing the car off. They push it to the ege of a steep incline, looking down over a valley. It looks like they will push it down the incline to get it started.

FLASHBACK: The father admits he was looking at his retirement. He tells Hurley going to Australia won't help end a curse, that he needed hope instead. He suggested that Hurley give away the money, but keep enough to fix the car. Then they could travel to the Grand Canyon.

PRESENT: Back to the car on the side of the hill. It's obvious that this is Hurley's way of taking his father's advice, that the car is a metaphor for the father's "hope" speech. Hurley and Charlie head down the hill the van (it's a van, by the way). It looks dangerous. Everything slows down. Then the van starts and the tape player starts playing (or it's just the soundtrack). Everyone is happy and they pile in the beat up old van. This turns into a nice music montage with everyone being reflective on the beach and stuff.

Kate has found the French chick, but Locke and Sayeed have found Kate. Then the French chick finds all of them, firing off her rifle. Kate tells her about the girl who helped Kate escape, and says the girl is the French chick's daughter. (I know that's a lot of uses of the word chick. I can't remember her name.) We end with a closeup of the French chick's face, looking shocked and crazy.

This was a better episode than last week. It was your typical Hurley episode, solid with a few funny twists. Paying off the tarot reader was a nice touch. I liked Trisha Tanaka and mourn her death.

After weeks of downers, the hopeful scene with the van was nice to see.

Hurley's father was Cheech Marin. Boy, he's looking old. I hope that was makeup.

Looks like Kate, Locke, Sayeed and the French chick are about to take matters into their own hands. Whether they free Jack or find that he's gone with the Others, I want the Others Captivity plotline to end. The fandom needs it to end. It's become such a drag on the whole series.

I'm assuming they won't go looking for the woman's daughter without some interaction between them, so I'm assuming they will at least have some encounter with The Others. Hope it's resolved in one episode.
