Default High School Musical 2

I'd watched the first one it's really good same with the music. I can't wait for the second one this August 17th on the Disney channel. I heard TV Guide will have them on their upcoming Aug. 13th issue, with a free cd in it. Has anyone here love watching it too?

Default HSM: A retort

I read something in the paper today about the old TV show Fame and how, unlike in HSM, the characters were allowed to be flawed and to fail.

HSM is fairly sickening, in so far as it tells kids the following:

Conforming is good

Success is an end in itself

Pretty people are better

Life is simple

If you have cheek bones and a nice smile, a few moments of introspection is about as low as life will get, this sensitive moment will then allow you to do a dance later and prove that nothing can stand in your way as long as you brush your teeth, keep a positive mental attitude , do what the teachers say and never go further than kissing until your married

Along with the Jonas Brothers, HSM is a tactical assault on the youth by large corporations who will profit from your blind conformity.

Don't get me wrong, If I was 15 again, I'd probably buy in so I'm not attacking anyone personally for liking it, I just think there's more interesting teen films out there. Watch Heathers for a surreal dose of angst or Juno, a film that shows young people in a more realistic light, without all the toothache inducing sugar.

Even Footloose, Grease and especially Dirty Dancing had a little grit, some dirt under the nail so to speak, but HSM is the cinematic equivalent of a Happy Meal, it feels good when you eat it, but it's ultimately unsatisfying.

What's this in the bottom of the bag? A HSM toy! Result!

What age group is the HSM stuff even aimed at? I always figured tweens were their big market. That, or teenage girls. I can't imagine a lot of high school guys flocking to see that stuff (unless it's to store mental images of Vanessa Hudgens for a later masturbation session).
