I read Lullaby the other day. It's by the guy who wrote Fight Club.
Some people might call it a horror novel, but it could also just be considered a supernatural tale with liberal doses of black humor and social commentary. The basic premise revolves around an ancient song which kills anyone who hears it. This song has been collected into a book of poems and songs for children, and has results in many of America's reported crib deaths. Of course, you can also use the spell to kill enemies or just people who annoy you. When the narrator discovers this, he gets a little out of hand. Along the way, he also meets up with an evironmental terrorist, a modern-day witch and a real estate agent who only sells haunted houses. It's a real quick read, and I would highly recommend it for anyone who likes their fiction a little off-kilter. Very entertaining. |
