Black Panther #25
Written by Reginald Hudlin Art by Marcus To • Black Panther reveals that he's been planning to use Monica Rambeau's energy-based powers to break into the Negative Zone Prison. That's how the team gets in-Monica becomes living energy and finds a back door. • Meanwhile, Storm approaches Reed Richards to discuss why she and BP have chosen to side with Cap. Reed points out that BP never said registration was a bad idea, just that it's being implemented wrongly. Storm leaves the discussion frustrated when Reed tries proving that BP should be on the side of pro-registration. • While Cap's team storms the Negative Zone Prison, BP sends an emergency message to the Wakandan Embassy in NYC telling them all to evacuate. The embassy workers fill a plane on the roof of their building as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents watch from afar. • When the fight leaks out into Manhattan from the Negative Zone, Black Panther leads his teammates in effective ways to take down members of Iron Man's team. • Storm notices that a S.H.I.E.L.D. chopper is asking the Wakandan plane to stay grounded. She decides to help them escape and leaves the battle. • Clone Thor appears and scares most members of Cap's side. They don't know what to think of the monster. Clone Thor makes threats to BP and his men before Storm shows up sporting lightning powers. As her back is turned, the Wakandan security system kicks in and points dozens of guns at the S.H.I.E.L.D. chopper. S.H.I.E.L.D., being only one chopper, lets them leave. • Clone Thor and Storm rumble for a bit before Clone Thor destroys the Wakandan Embassy. Storm throws a truck at him and he shrugs it off. Invisible Woman protects Storm with an invisible shield as the clone shoots lasers out of his hammer at the former X-Man. Finally, Storm sets off an electromagnetic pulse in the clone's brain ('cause she can do that) and he drops to the ground. That's when Hercules enters the picture and stomps the clone's butt (see Civil War #7). • In the end, Black Panther notifies Storm that Cap gave up as they stand in front of their destroyed embassy with nowhere to go. Civil War: Front Line #11 Written by Paul Jenkins Art by Ramon Bachs After the fight from Civil War #7 ends, Sally Floyd and Ben Urich come up to the street from the subway station they've been hiding out in since issue #10. They look around, and see the downtown area is devastated. • A sort of montage plays that shows Cap being arrested as well as fires being put out from the battles, Sentry and Hank Pym fixing structural damage in tunnels, the death toll numbers at 53 killed (six of which were superpowered) and Typeface being carried away dead on a stretcher. • Later, Sally and Ben head to the Raft Maximum Security Prison to interview someone for their big, secret story. They discuss the fact that Sally has left her job at an alternative paper so she could publish the story on her own. Turns out the person they're interviewing is Cap. • Cap explains in the interview that he feels sorry for having resisted registration and wishes to apologize to Tony Stark. He says he had pure intentions that got twisted as he went on in his crusade and what he did was for America. Then Sally jumps in and berates him for not knowing anything about the current America. She claims that because he doesn't know what Americans are about anymore and because he's fighting for an ideal of America instead of things like high cholesterol, MySpace and Paris Hilton (because that's what Americans care about), he has torn the new America apart. Sally and Ben leave after basically yelling at Cap. • The following 10 days are shown in another montage. Ben and Sally work on their story. Sally hooks up with a police officer she met. Sentry fully registers and announces it to the public. Ben and Sally start a site called "frontlines.com." The government patrols the oceans in case of an Atlantean attack. The Fifty State Initiative enters full swing. • At the end of the 10 days, Ben and Sally head to Avengers Tower to approach Tony Stark about their story and to "blow the whole thing open." • When they sit with Stark, they explain a plot they discovered while researching the war. In it, the Green Goblin was used to attack an Atlantean delegation to set off war. Ben claims Tony is the traitor. Ben says Tony used the knowledge of certain events, like the Goblin's attack, to manipulate stock market values and earn over $90 million. That money was then transferred through bank accounts and other places and ended up in charitable organizations providing pensions for firefighters, police and registered heroes. Sally goes on to claim that Tony built the Negative Zone Prison in order to scare heroes into thinking they may be sent there if they didn't register and never intended to use it as a lasting solution to the problem. Tony "weighed the possibility of war with Atlantis against the inevitability of costumed individuals tearing this country apart." And in the end, according to Sally, the nation's fear of an Atlantean battle has increased hero registration. • Sally mockingly applauds Tony's sacrifice as a friend and hero for the greater good. Tony tells them to get out of his office. Ben then lets Tony know they'd never publish the story, as it would jeopardize everything Tony is trying to accomplish. After they leave his office, Tony begins to sob and drops to his knees. It looks like he did mastermind the entire debacle for the greater good. BODY COUNT According to Sally Floyd's report, the final battle of Civil War claimed 53 casualties, only six of whom were superpowered. Since Typeface was the only superhuman we actually saw bite it (and get carried off), we'll be lighting a candle and hoping that U.S. Archer made it through. |
