Weird list. Where's "Danny Boy"? If they're gonna play a song at my funeral I don't want to be remembered to some lame pop hit. C'mon. Gimme something with some tradition behind it. Something appropriate to the occasion. "Every Breath You Take"? You've got to be kidding me. LOL.

Danny Boy made the overall list, but it was outside the top 10. It was said to be more popular with older folks.

I'll admit that I would probably want contemporary music for my funeral, but I think it's the sort of thing that you would have to be careful about. While you might like the song or get the joke, you're also dead. Those you've left behind might be bewildered and/or freaked out by certain selections.

By the way, another song that made the list but was outside the top 10 was the theme song from Fame, "I Wanna Live Forever." That seems more like a bad pun at a funeral than anything else.

Well I've freaked out and bewildered people my whole life, so I might as well do at my funeral as well. At my funeral, I want my casket to slowly lowered to the ground with "The Final Countdown" blaring away in the background. It can sort of prepare me for the afterlife.

I'm afraid that I would be thinking about G.O.B. and Arrested Development the whole time. Still, it sounds like one helluva send-off.

There's something to be said for cremation.

While I would prefer classical music or traditional hymns to be played at my funeral, I suppose I could come up with a few suitable popular songs in a pinch.

Almost certainly 'round 1997, there was a strong demand for violins at funerals playing Nearer My God To Thee.
Fits well doesn't it.

Then after the first Lord of the Rings one could choose "May it Be".
The lyrics can easily be turned into a metaphor on death.

There's no "Let it Be" in that poll; I would have thought. In the film "Across the Universe", the Let it Be funeral scene features a gospel choir. Feels that it always was meant to be sung that way.

This is a British poll and I don't see "You Raise Me Up". Though George Best represented a great deal beyond NI... sure it's been often requested somehow.

At my funeral, maybe they could play a contemporary funeral song like "If You're Gone" by Matchbox Twenty. I'm going through a Matchbox Twenty phase at the moment.

Another good choice (as far as popular funeral songs go) would be "My Way". But I'd have a tough time deciding between the Sinatra version or the Elvis version.
