The 1980 flick Fade to Black features a movie fanatic who eventually breaks with reality, dresses up as his favorite movie characters, and begins killing people. His character watches an endless stream of movies, and we're treated to clips from films such as Halloween, White Heat, Kiss of Death, and The Public Enemy.

Hi
The film has cult cinema references all over. Brendon is a Dubliner and a '60s film geek
who loves Nouvelle Vague (Godard, Truffaut) and American Westerns equally.

One of John Coffey's last wishes:

"...I ain't never seen me a flicker show..."

The first and last film he sees is Top Hat (1935).

Amelie:

The title character "... likes to watch for little things in the background that nobody notices..."
when going to the pictures. As she tells us so, different scenes show on the screen,
mostly from Jules et Jim (1962).

Midnight Cowboys:

Joe and Cass in her apartment on Park Avenue, doing something they each think
will earn them some cash. As the remote is accidentally being pressed,
we see a glimpse of Bette Davis in Dark Victory (1939).

The Last Picture Show:

Kept it for the end, with its appropriate title.

Anarene, Texas.
A fictional version of Archer City, Archer County; although I've seen a tiny place on a map
called Anarene on route 79 between Archer City and Olney.

The last film watched by Sonny, Duane and Billy in their hometown is Red River (1948).
