A 14-year-old Travis County girl who said she was sexually assaulted by a Buda man she met on MySpace.com sued the popular social networking site Monday for $30 million, claiming that it fails to protect minors from adult sexual predators.

I haven't kept us with this story, but I've noticed parents and officials are always complaining about MySpace.com.
Could someone explain why MySpace is singled out? How is it different than other sites on the internet in this way?

I'd be amazed if there was much of a difference other than the popularity level. Since MySpace is so hot right now, everyone is lining up to take a shot at it. It's a shame what happened to the girl, but her parents are more to blame than some internet company. And, of course, that money-hungry lawyer is just drooling at the possibility of going after such a rich company. Bottom line: Watch your kids. Don't expect some computer geeks 6 states away to do it for you. |
