My wife, who is a big Heath Ledger fan (Yeah, I don't understand it either. Why would she like a skinny blonde guy when she has all of me? Oh well, sidetracked, sorry) decided that she had to see Brokeback Mountain. I fought her on it but she finally won out. I was able to be "not available" for most of the movie, but did see the last half hour or so. From what I saw, the movie sucked. The only way it could have sucked more is if they both had got tire ironed. What a waste of time. I suppose I like happy endings though, no matter what kind of movie I am watching.

Never seen it.
It sounds like a love story, i.e. a chick flick. To be fair, I guess you have to judge it by those standards. Someone told me they got together while snuggling with one another in a tent to "keep warm". Nobody would buy that in a guy-girl romance. But since I never saw it, it's hard to have much of an opinion beyond that. My guess is most guys wouldn't come on a message board and admit to seeing Brokeback Mountain, so let me applaud pokermonger for his courage. We'll be your support group for all the movies your wife makes you watch.

I'll one-up Pokermonger here and not only admit that I saw the film, but that I liked it very much. The acting was superb, the screenplay was excellent, and the photography and cinematography were beautiful. Randy Quaid in particular was good as an unsympathetic and somewhat sinister boss. Anne Hathaway even has a brief nude scene, which was a pleasant surprise too.
I've seen all of the Best Picture nominees from last year except for Munich, which is on my list, and Brokeback Mountain was really the only one that I thought deserved to be on the list besides Crash. And I think Crash deserved its win. |
