I saw Silent Hill the other night. The movie was based on a best-selling horror video game. When a mother and daughter journey to the abandoned town of Silent Hill in search of answers to the daughters recurring nightmares, they stumble into all kinds of weirdness. Here are a few observations:
1. Nice special effects. It really gave the film a creepy feel. Some of the visuals are just outright stunning. 2. Plot was pretty thin, with the typical vague ending I’ve come to expect from anything associated with a Japanese video game (or Japanese cinema in general). 3. If you like to look at beautiful women, there are a couple to admire throughout the film. It’s also a plus that they’re written as strong women who drive the plot of the film. You won’t see many horror/suspense movies these days where the two main characters are female and competent. 4. I thought the villain of the film was pretty weak. The lesser monsters and minions were more impressive, in my opinion. 5. Ultimately, the movie is more about style than substance. But if you’re a fan of gorgeous-looking films, then you might want to check it out. If you’re looking for a T&A slasher film, then look elsewhere. |

I just saw this one as well. Lotsa gore! Makes me wonder if Christophe Gans was previously a B-horror movie director. Special effects were really top-notch IMO. Quite shocked to realize that it was 2 hours long. Unusual for a horror film. Wished the ending had a better and clearer closure. Jodelle Ferland was good though.
