I agree. There's nothing like seeing Ving Rhames kick some zombie ass.

The Burrowers has a really good storyline, set in the old west. I think it was one of the best unpublisized movie I've seen in a while. Drag me to Hell was also good.

I drug my feet on seeing Drag Me to Hell, but I was pleasantly surprised once I finally viewed it. The usual dark comedy from Raimi, especially involving the old gypsy woman and her false teeth.

I don't think that many movies are actually scary i think most "horror" films are simply disgusting with gore and have some cheap startles in them when something jumps out at random. Actually scaring me would be making me sleep with the cloest light on for a week or get nightmares or something. Not just a sudden jump.

Did you see Paranormal Activity? That film seemed to frighten a number of people in the way you described above. Personally, I thought it was well-made, but it didn't make me sleep with the lights on or anything.

most horror movies are terrible (in a non entertaining way) but I think the most terrifying movies are the ones that introduced truly original ideas for their time...some get credit and some don't...

Halloween
The Shining
Jacobs Ladder
The Thing

these are all examples of movies that are painfully effective at exactly what the director was attempting to do...
