A writer for MSN recently released a list of Hollywood's Top 10 Surprise Endings. Do you agree or disagree?
(NOTE: No spoilers are listed below.)

10. The Others (2001) - Nicole Kidman plays an overprotective mother trying to shield her two kids from ghosts and other assorted weirdness.

9. Suspicion (1941) - Joan Fontaine is a mousy heiress and Cary Grant is a smooth con-artist. He seduces her into marriage, and you're just certain that she's going to end up broke and dead. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, he had to change the ending at the insistence of the studio (to give it more of a twist).

8. Charade (1963) - Audrey Hepburn plays a woman whose husband is murdered. She then finds herself pursued by a never-ending procession of thugs and killers. Cary Grant also stars, and we don't know if he's after something her husband had hidden, or if he really wants to protect her.

7. Psycho (1960) -Is Norman Bates crazy, or is his domineering mother killing all their motel guests? If you haven't seen it, rent it as soon as possible. Another Hitchcock classic.

6. Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - Tyron Power is accused of killing a wealthy widow. This courtroom drama literally chock-full of twists, turns, and dark comedy.

5. Unbreakable (2000) - Bruce Willis survives a train wreck without a scratch on him, while everyone else on board is killed. How did he survive? We get the shocking explanation from a highly-brittle art dealer played by Samuel L. Jackson.

4. Oldboy (2003) - In this Japanese film, a man is kidnapped and thrown into captivity for 15 years. Then, one day, he is suddenly released and must try to find out the reasons behind his imprisonment. In the end, he would have probably been better off not knowing.

3. The Crying Game (1992) - Stephen Rea plays an IRA soldier who develops a bond with a prisoner. Before his tragic death, the prisoner asks Rea to watch over his girlfriend. Soon, Rea finds himself falling for the beautiful woman, and that's where the twist comes in. This was such a shocker that it even got it's own Time magazine cover.

2. Fight Club (1999) - Who is Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt)? That's what Ed Norton's character is trying to find out. After the two become pals and form Fight Club, Durden seems more and more obsessed with toppling corporate America and launching dangerous acts of terrorism. This leads Norton across the United States, looking for clues to the identity of his mysterious friend. The answer will, no doubt, surprise you.

1. Les Diaboliques (1955) - In this French film, a woman decides to murder her lout of a husband, and she gets some much-welcomed assistance from the man's mistress. After drowning him in a bathtub, the women begin to wonder if the man is really dead, or if they are losing their minds.

What was the sursprise origin? Jackson's involvement? I remember liking this movie up to the ending.

Good movie. I love where Pitt sends the Fight Club members into the city to pick a fight and lose.

Yeah, this movie had so many great moments. A few of mine were:

1. All of their antics on the airplane, especially the line about Hindu cows.

2. Norton's visits to the support groups (especially Helena Bonham Carter's appearance at the group for men with testicular cancer).

3. Tyler Durden splicing single frames of pornography into popular children's films.

I've just posted something about #1 Les Diaboliques in the "classics" thread,
and I'm quite surprised it tops this MSN list from years ago.


Instead of #5 Unbreakable, I'd place the only Shyamalan I truly liked, The Sixth Sense.
Maybe it doesn't make the list because too many people were able to guess
what the ending was about? I don't remember the end being so obvious, though...

Wow, how do you have a Top 10 Surprise Ending list without The Sixth Sense. Frankly that movie should be No. 1. They just completely blow their credibility with that list.

I am also shocked not to see The Usual Suspects on the list.
