Default Nacho Libre

Has anyone seen this movie? If so, please let me know what you thought.
Is it worth seeing at the theater, or should I just wait for the DVD?

Default Five Thoughts on Nacho Libre

1. If you enjoyed the structure of the scenes in Napoleon Dynamite, you will enjoy the scenes in Nacho Libre. Very similar. The humor doesn't follow the standard punchline format.

2. There are many wrestling scenes. The wrestling has an oddball quality to it. It has the feel of a traveling circus sideshow. The producers certainly leave you wondering when the heroes are going to start being heroic.

3. It would appear the producers hired more locals than professionals for the acting. Many of the characters do not at all look like Hollywood types. They look more like Mexican peasantry, which is probably what they are.

4. Music carries many of the scenes. I would like to see the size of the soundtrack for this movie. I don't think it's much of an exaggeration to say that 15-20 songs were used to help tell the story, especially from a comedic standpoint.

I imagine this is one of those movies that make movie execs scratch their heads watching the dailies, because these scenes without the proper musical background wouldn't work at all.

5. Jack Black fans should enjoy this movie, if they can take their Jack with a faux Mexican accent.

SUMMARY: This is worth a trip to the theater. I laughed on several occasions. It had the virtue of being different than other movies.

At the same time, there is nothing on the big screen that won't translate to the small screen. So if you can hold off a few months, you won't miss anything.

I'll be interested to see how the makers of Libre and N.D. do for their next project. Nacho Libre very much has the same feel as their first offering, though the subject matter and setting are much different. From the opening sequence to the ending, everything seems stripped down...which isn't neccessarily a bad thing.

It's certainly rare to find films without cursing which aren't aimed specifically at children (The Rookie being one of the few exceptions that I can think of). Maybe there will be a wave of Mormon filmmakers come in and take over Hollywood.

I am a 49 year old married woman, and I LOVED this movie. I laughed my a-- off!!!!!!!!!!!! Nachos sidekick stole the show, as far as i'm concerned.

I loved Napoleon Dynamite too.

Pirates put me to sleep. Very dissapointing.
