Shane is on a distinguished road
Default 10 Thoughts - Underworld: Evolution

The further adventures of the vampire, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and the vampire/werewolf hybrid, Michael (Scott Speedman). This time, they are trying to prevent the first vampire and first werewolf from teaming up to wreak havoc across the world.

1. Although they make a fine effort to explain what went on in the first film, it does help if you've seen it.

2. The entire film looks to be shot in blacks and greys, giving it an oppressive, overcast appearance.

3. The film is basically one long chase scene through the woods and mountains of Eastern Europe.

4. The character of Kraven was such a weasel in the first film. It's a shame he doesn't have much of a part this time around.

5. Excellent costume and set design. They really did a bang-up job in creating their own unique look for the world.

6. Have you ever noticed that every modern vampire movie has a scene where either (a) the human protagonist offers their blood to the vampire, or (b) the vampire offers their blood to the protagonist.

7. Kate Beckinsale is just flat out hot. She's normally very pretty, but give her bright blue contacts, fangs, and a leather corset, and it's just an unbelieveable change. I wonder if that was actually her in the love scenes, or of they used a double?

8. Amazing special effects. From the stylistic slow-motion gunplay, to the hulking werewolves and winged vampires, the film really makes the characters of Underworld come alive.

9. Just like the last film, we're treated to another knock-down-drag-out climax featuring gravity-defying stunts and WWE-style combat.

10. Solid enough performances from the cast, but the script usually didn't call on them to do much more than fire handguns, look grim, and walk about with a sense of purpose. Of course, is anybody really seeing this movie for character development?
