I'm sorry, but I was not kidding about Bill Murray being cast as the Mandarin. I suppose it could change before the actual filming begins, but I have it from a very reliable source that Bill Murray is Favreau's personal pick for the role of the Mandarin.
Murray's got plenty of range. He can do this! |

Care to reveal your source? Bill Murray, perhaps?

As an Asian-American, it's insulting the studio would cast Bill Murray.
A real shame. They chose the best Iron Man villain. The powers of the ten rings will provide nice visuals on the big screen. Much more unique than one of the cadre of power armor villains he has. I had such hope for this movie. |

I also read recently where Oscar-nominated actor Terrance Howard (Crash, Hustle and Flow) was being considered as James Rhodes, friend and assistant to Tony Stark.

perhaps Rick Yune might want to take up the role of Mandarin as his comeback.
also, i've heard that they're looking for someone latin to fill up iron man's shoes. and one of the contenders is eva longoria's husband in desperate housewives. which i don't think will happen. |

Now why in the world would they want a Latin Iron Man? This is the same kind of thinking that turned the Honeymooners into an all-black cast (and a box-office disaster). If they're going to do that, I vote for Antonio Banderas. He could pull off a suave-as-hell Tony Stark. |

Rick Yune might be a good choice. I completely forgot about him. He qualified at 19 for the Olympic Trials in Tae Kwon Do, so he should be able to pull off any action sequences that would be required.
Nice pick. |

correct me if i'm wrong (i've never read the iron man comic books) but isn't iron man some latin/non-white guy?
yeah, antonio banderas would be a viable and obvious choice! |

Iron Man aka Tony Stark is a rich white guy. For a time, many years ago, the armor was worn by his African-American buddy, but the classic (and current) Iron Man is very white (rich playboy). |

oic... then if that's the case, i have no idea why they're going for a latin guy.
anyways, Terrence Howard was indeed offered the role of James Rhodes and he's now considering the offer. he didn't accept it right away because he isn't so sure of acting infront of a green screen lol. |
