What did you think about Se7en, by the way? That's my personal favorite from among Fincher's many excellent works. |

I liked Se7en, especially for the time (I saw it in the theater). That was when gritty movies weren't all the rage, so the film was quite different. However, I don't think it holds up as well as Fight Club does, mostly because the ending was so lame. It really irritated me that John Doe does the first five murders flawlessly, based on actual "sins" of the people he kills, but the last two (envy and wrath) were evoked by HIM, so that doesn't quite count, does it? Plus I never bought for a second that John Doe was envious of Mills, ever. It just didn't make sense. Plus he killed Mills' wife, who wasn't guilty of any of the sins, which was totally out of his MO. A guy that into making others pay for their sins, and to kill them in the same method of their sins, would not kill an innocent person for any reason, especially not just to make another person "wrathful". I'm sure in that city he had plenty of people around that were guilty of wrath that he could have plugged. Plus Mills doesn't die in the end, so his sin is unpunished, which also doesn't fit with Doe's scheme.
Just a lot of loose ends for me. |

Interesting views on the movie, wookiee. As far as Mills not dying, I think John Doe viewed that as his punishment. Mills had to live with the knowledge that his wife and child were murdered, and he failed to protect them. And, of course, shooting a prisoner also ended the career he was so passionate about.
I understand what you're saying, though. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Since we're on the subject of David Fincher, what did you think about The Game? |

I liked the Game. You definitely have to suspend disbelief, but it was a pretty good plot and visually interesting (which is one of the reasons I love Fincher). Plus it spawned a lot of movies with a similar basic plot, which is always the mark of a good film. You like it?
I actually even liked Panic Room. Though Forrest Whitaker made the movie for me. Have yet to see Benjamin Button... |
