Default Cast the Watchmen Movie

Let's play "Cast the Watchmen Movie". Who would you like to see in the various roles?

The Comedian- I like Jack Nicholson for this role, even though he's getting pretty old. Bruce Willis might be an interesting choice too, but maybe I think that because I just saw him play a corrupt cop with a mustache in 16 Blocks. Willem Dafoe might be good too, although I don't know how he would look with the cigar and stuff. Alec Baldwin would be good if you could get him in the gym for a bit.

Nite Owl - I like John Cusack for this one, or William H. Macy. Macy's really good at playing the lovable loser.

Another interesting choice for this role would be Michael Keaton, since he played Batman but he's now getting a lot older.

Tom Hanks would be great, but I can't imagine they'd be willing to pay him enough to get him in the movie.

Silk Spectre - I think you want someone who used to be hot for this role, but who kinda isn't anymore. I can't think of anyone too much better than Meg Ryan for this. Debra Winger might be good, but she might be a little bit too old too.

Ozymandias - Matt Damon would work, or Brad Pitt. God, if Robert Redford weren't so damn old, he'd be great as Ozymandias too. Kieffer Sutherland might be an interesting choice too, but he'd have to stretch a bit to look more sophisticated.

Rorschach - Gary Oldman was mentioned in a Wizard article recently. He's an obvious choice. I remember a long time ago there was talk of Christopher Lloyd in this role, which would also be great. In fact, if they went the older actor route, you could cast Lloyd, Redford, and Nicholson. Talk about star power.

Kevin Spacey would make a great Rorschach too.

Dr. Manhattan - I think you need to do Dr. Manhattan as a CGI character, but you voice him with someone recognizable and noble and intellignt sounding. William Hurt would be good for this, I think. Anthony Hopkins or Michael Caine would be good too, especially if you could get them to Americanize their accents.

Here's what I've got so far....

Moloch - Ben Kingsley (He just looks like an old retired super-villain. Plus, he can obviously act his butt off, and Bloodrayne proves that he will happily act in anything if you pay him.)

Hollis Mason/Nite Owl I - John Voight (He was once a great actor, before he started mailing it in. He adds some star power to a small part.)

Silk Spectre I - Lorraine Bracco (she in her 50's, but she's still pretty in a mature way. Trash her up a little, put a drink in her hand, and she's make a good mother for the younger Silk Spectre.)

Dr. Manhattan - voiced by Sam Neil. I agree with Randy about the CGI element of the character. Neil would make him sound slightly British, slightly creepy, and slightly insane.

Rorschach - William H. Macey. He's short, red-headed, and a good actor. What more could you want? He might also be willing to have his face covered with a mask for at least half the movie.

Ozymandias - Ralph Fiennes. Another excellent actor, he would have no trouble pulling off the "world's smartest man." He's also in good shape, so the physical aspect of the role would be no problem. Lighten his hair and you've got an intelligent and menacing Ozymandias.

Comedian - Mickey Rourke. Another great actor. Rourke is in his 50's but still in incredible physical shape (just like Edward Blake). Rourke's face tells of a hard-lived life, and the man was poised to be one of the greatest actors of the modern era until his demons got the best of him. He would excel in such a role.

I'm having the biggest trouble with Silk Spectre and Nite Owl, as I feel they are the most important characters in the film (and the ones that the audience best relates to). I've got some more thinking to do on those.

I really can't come up with anyone better than John Cusack. I'll take him for Nite Owl (good call, Randy).

Ooh. I really like Ralph Fiennes as Ozymandias, and Mickey Rourke as the comedian.

Although, now that I think about it, Christian Slater would make a nice Comedian too.

I can't think of a less likely Comedian than Christian Slater...maybe Chris Tucker.

I must say, Alec Baldwin or Mickey Rourke both sound fine as The Comedian.

COMEDIAN: Maybe it was the scar, but Tom Berenger did Sgt. Barnes, so I'm sure he could pull off The Comedian. If you want someone imposing and mouthy for what amounts to a scene or two, how about Jesse Ventura?

OZYMANDIAS: Edward Norton - I actually considered him for Rorschach, then I realized Norton stands 6'1". There aren't many actors with the superhero body, so I'm going for something different here. I figure Norton could do the friendly, smiling, all-American guy for most of the movie, then suddenly turn insane when needed.

If Edward Norton is too young for this role, then I would suggest someone like Tim Robbins. He would enjoy playing against type as the epitomy of the corporate bigwig, I'm sure.

RORSCHACH: William H. Macy - I've said for years he looks like Rorschach, so I have to choose him. I figure he would appreciate the chance to chew some scenery, since his characters are usually more understated. "HRRM..."

NIGHT OWL: Bill Paxton - He's about the right age. He can be both an action hero or whiny. Of course, Nicholas Cage would get this role.

SILK SPECTRE: I'm looking for someone tall and slutty in this role. The best I can figure is someone like Cameron Diaz.

DR. MANHATTAN: CGI, and voiced by Liam Niesan. I figure his wooden voice would fit perfectly with Manhattan's inhuman tones.

MOLOCH: F. Murray Abraham. He looks wormy enough.

Berenger and Ventura would both be good choices. But just once in the movie, each would have to say the following:

Berenger: Death? What do you all know about death?

Ventura: This stuff will make you a godda*n sexual Tyrannosaurus.

I guess I would cast Elizabeth Shue as the Silk Spectre...maybe. That's really a tough one.

I know at some point in the past Hillary Swank had expressed interest in the part. Sigourney Weaver has also expressed interest. She's be great as the original Silk Spectre but not the daughter.

Mimi Rogers would make a great older Silk Spectre. The original one, not the really young one.
