Wow.....
Mixed feelings about the movie until I read later the writers deliberately decided to take it into a different direction with an alternate reality. Felt it was too short, can't wait until the director's cut though. I hated the way engineering looked but that's beside the point... Onto the main point, wikipedia states that this new Enterprise is 3000 feet long...a good deal larger than the original 1000 foot long constitution class enterprise and almost 1/3rd larger than a Sovereign or Galaxy class from the 24th Century! Does anyone know if the size figure is correct? If it is, I find it more believeable than the 1,000 ft figure of the past. It seems that Star Trek has progressed thru the years the starships have gotten larger and larger. If the size figure is correct it makes the "steam-pipe" engineering scenes a bit easier to accept (althought that still appears to be ALOT of wasted space and I would imagine that internal volume is at a premium, even on a 3000 foot starship. I would think that a ship would be designed to make the most efficient use of internal space, especially if said ship is going to be on a years-long voyage of exploration away from proper repair and supply facilities.) Can anyone confirm or deny the 3000 foot length figure? Thanks! |
