The film will star Benicio Del Toro and is an update of the classic monster movie. Details are still sketchy at the moment, but Universal is shooting for a November 14th, 2008 release date.

Here are some more details:

There is going to be a heavy emphasis on physical effects as opposed to CG so that audiences "don’t disassociate [their] emotion" from the human character even when he is in werewolf form. CG will "inevitably" be used to help with transformation scenes, but kept at a minimum overall.

Parts of the action will take place in London as well as the small town (Blackmore) that was the sole setting of the 1941 original.

The relationships between characters will be more obviously strained due to dark family secrets that will gradually come to light.

I believe that Emily Blunt (she was damn funny in Devil Wears Prada) is gonna be the female lead. And Anthony Hopkins is in the film too as does our Matrix villain, Hugo Weaving.

To be directed by Joe Johnston who gave us Jurassic Park 3.

But it seems that it's getting so difficult to get this film made. It was delayed due to the previous writers' strike as well.
