In your opinion, which Lethal Weapon film was the best of the series: 1, 2, 3, or 4?
For those who might have forgotten: 1 - Riggs and Murtaugh vs. drug dealing mercs (including Gary Busey) 2 - Riggs/Murtaugh vs. South African drug dealers. Joe Pesci is introduced. 3 - Riggs/Murtaugh vs. corrupt cops. Rene Russo is introduced. 4- Riggs/Murtaugh vs. Chinese criminals and Jet Li. |

In order, my favorites would be:
1- The movie that defined the buddy cop film. Highly influential and greatly entertaining. The showdown between Gibson and Busey is one of film's great fight scenes. 2 - Pesci is memorable, if not somewhat annoying. We get wacky South African villains and their crazy accent. Joss Ackland was excellent as the head villain ("Diplomatic immunity.") As always, an excellent soundtrack from Clapton, Harrison, and Kamen. 4- Our heroes begin to feel their age. Riggs isn't quite the badass that he used to be. Murtaugh is about to be a grandfather. Chris Rock is out of place, but Jet Li isn't. The final fight between Li and both Glover and Gibson is a real treat. 3 - No real villain for Riggs to have a martial arts showdown with - just crooked cops. Pesci is back, and this time he's dyed his hair. Rene Russo's character makes a nice debut in this otherwise flat and uneventful sequel. |

My favorite was the first one, if for no other reason than Mel Gibson's butt on display. I also thought Gary Busey provided a great villain.
The shooting range scene is a real classic. |
