So what's your favorite John Wayne film? Is it something more dramatic like The Quiet Man, a Western classic like Rio Bravo or The Searchers, or is it something a little more offbeat, like when he played Genghis Khan in The Conqueror?

I liked the Quiet Man. Those two old dudes just wailed away on each other for like 30 minutes. Great stuff.

I'd have to say The Searchers. Wayne gives one of the best (if not the best) performances of his life, and the plot is one that will keep you riveted from start to finish.
The only thing I didn't care for in the movie were the lame stabs at comedy (anyone remember the wedding and the weird preacher named The Sinkiller?). |

I like the John Wayne movies with elements of comedy, such as The Quiet Man and McClintock. My favorite is probably The Quiet Man. What a fight.
I liked the crazy fight in the mud pit in McClintock. The Searchers was awesome, because it challenged the audience with the idea that the hero would murder not only an innocent young woman, but one from his own family. I'm sure audiences at the time, when racism was much more rampant, probably were torn about what the "hero" should have done. |

I'd have to select The Shootist as perhaps my favorite John Wayne film. Great cast with names like Jimmy Stewart, Ron Howard, Richard Boone, and the like.
The final shootout is great, and the fact that this was Wayne's last film before dying of cancer (which is what his character in the movie had) makes it even more special. |

The Green Berets all the way. While everyone else was burning draft cards and being hippies, Wayne was supporting the troops by making this pro-Vietnam masterpiece.

Another vote here for The Searchers. Great movie. Did you know that it was in large part the inspiration for the Star Wars trilogy?
