Default The 100 Scariest Scenes in Movie History (#100)

Retrocrush.com recently released their list of the 100 scariest moments in movie history. Feel free to agree, disagree, or wax nostalgic about their selections.

#100 - The final scene from The Wicker Man (1973)

A strange pagan cult is visited by Sgt. Howie from Scotland Yard, who is investigating the disappearance of a young girl. He's a strict Christian and is shocked by their open sexuality, nude dancing, and bizarre rituals. It turns out they perform a virgin sacrifice by burning someone inside of a giant wicker man, but little does Howie know who that sacrifice is! A very chilling ending that you should have seen coming a mile away, but you're so caught up in the spooky atmosphere that it's still quite a surprise. The burning Wicker Man is a great image that lives on in Nevada's annual Burning Man festival as well.

Thanks for the reminder. Blue Velvet is a movie I've always been meaning to watch.

It was always one of my favorites from the 80s. Rutger Haur really looked to be having fun, a young Jennifer Jason Leigh was in top form, and even C. Thomas Howell managed not to stink up the place.

Plus, there was lots of blood and gore. A big plus in my book.

I've read that they're planning on doing a remake. It will be interesting to see how that goes.
