This 1978 film stars Anthony Hopkins, Burgess Meredith, and a wooden dummy named Fats. Need I say more?
Hopkins is an up-and-coming magician who is slowly losing his mind. Fats is his chief prop and advisor on (and off) stage. Ann Margaret is also in the film as Hopkins' old high school crush. The movie is average, but I got a hoot out of watching an Oscar-winning actor play opposite a puppet. It's marketed as a horror/thriller, but there really aren't many scares and very little blood. |

Hopkins has always been prone to overacting (that's what made Hannibal the Cannibal such a great character).
I saw this one recently and it was really odd to watch a "respected" actor back in the days when he was starring in offbeat genre films. And it was really great to hear him provide the voice for Fats the dummy. |
