![]() Discuss it here. Psycho is a 1960 suspense/horror film directed by auteur Alfred Hitchcock from the screenplay by Joseph Stefano. It is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Bloch, which was in turn inspired by the crimes of Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein.[1] The film depicts the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who is in hiding after embezzling from her employer, at a motel run by the lonely and profoundly disturbed Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins). "The Shower Scene" has been studied, discussed, and referenced countless times in print and in film courses with debate focusing on why it is so terrifying and how it was produced, including how it passed the censors and who directed it. |

Still functions well as an effective thriller. For weeks after I saw it, I couldn't help but peek outside the curtain while I was taking a shower.
Hitchcock was truly a master of suspense. |

I didn't really enjoy this film when I first saw it but I got through it (which is something). Second time was better and it is one of Hitch's best but wouldn't be in his top 5 for me. Vertigo and Notorious are my favourites.

Yeah, Vertigo is great. That final scene up on the bell tower is just amazing. And Kim Novak? Wow. Hitchcock sure liked his blondes. Then again, when did Jimmy Stewart ever make a bad movie? |
