Default What's up with Jack Black?

Nacho Libre only did okay. The Tenacious D flick bombed. King Kong wasn't the megahit they hoped for.

Is Jack Black losing his star power, or was he never more than glorified comic relief?

Personally, I think he's like John Goodman. Excellent in a supportin role, but he doesn;t have the star power to carry a movie.

I think the Tenacious D movie was a victim of poor marketing. They failed to capture the vibe of the HBO series and the trailers I saw were pretty unfunny.

He'll bounce back.

The women in the family sure liked his role in The Holiday. Don't know if that's a good sign or not.

I didn't see it myself. Apparently, he was one of the romantic co-leads, along with Jude Law.

I thought Tenacious D was hilarious. Jack Black has done some amazing work. Sure, not every film he's in is gold, but he has laid out some great performances over the years. I really liked him, and everyone else for that matter, in Tropic Thunder. Another film I really liked, one that just wouldn't have been the same with any other actor, was Kung Fu Panda.

He's weak in my opinion in any role. He was lucky enough to be in Linklaters School of Rock and that skyrocketed him to fame. It's amazing what a good story and director can do for a poor actor.

Yeah, his act is more than a little tired.

I think Jack Black is still funny and talented. I'd like to see him in a more dramatic role.

Maybe someday when he's older. Right now he's the right age to play the Fool in Lear though.

I was thinking something along the lines of an action role though, like a Die Hard type movie.
