Default R.I.P. Edward Woodward

Edward Woodward, best known for his role in Breaker Morant, The Wicker Man, and television's The Equalizer, passed away Monday at the age of 79. In recent years, he could be seen as a shotgun-wielding local in the Simon Pegg action spoof, Hot Fuzz.

If you've never had a chance to see Breaker Morant or The Wicker Man, I would highly recommend them.

Fans of Mr. Woodward are welcome to share their thoughts.

I starting to like this forum. Now if Tiger Woods can say out of trouble maybe I will get some work done.

I had no idea Edward Woodward died until I read this thread! Not sure how I missed the news, but I felt compelled to drop in and say a few words.

Edward Woodward was an exceptional actor of the "old-school" variety. By that I mean he had it all: Technique, talent, charisma and "the voice". I remember being mesmerized by his performance in Breaker Morant (long before I ever considered becoming an actor myself). He seemed to have so much contained power - like a prowling tiger. In that respect, he reminded me of Richard Burton.

Later, I had the pleasure of meeting and working with his son, Peter, on the set of "The Patriot". Peter is a delightful man and a very good actor, but his ability doesn't compare to that of his father (as I'm sure he himself would concede). Peter now hosts a series of documentaries for the History Channel.

If you want to observe an actor who is a master of his craft, watch Edward Woodward in "Breaker Morant". You won't be disappointed.

Amen to that. Thanks for the observations, RoyMac.
