RIP Brad Renfro

Former child star Brad Renfro was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment at age 25. Foul play is not suspected. The actor had a long history of drug and alcohol abuse.

At age 10, the Tennessee-born actor caught his big break and was cast opposite Susan Sarandon in The Client. He went on to star and co-star in such films as The Cure, Tom and Huck, Sleepers, Apt Pupil, and Ghost World. He had been filming an adaptation The Informers, a novel by Brett Easton Ellis.

Renfro's run-ins with the law were numerous, including most famously an incident in December of 2005, when the LAPD busted him for attempting to purchase heroin in LA's Skid Row.

Why is it that Renfro got much less coverage than Ledger? I know, I know Ledger was more famous. But you know what? Renfro was probably a better actor. Anyone see BULLY? He was stellar in that film.

Followup: The Oscars fueled my arguement even further by not even mentioning Renfro in their tribute to all the deceased actors of 2007! Did anybody catch that? WTF.

I have a crush on Brad Renfro. But sad to say, it seems like he's underrated in the eyes of those Oscar juries.
